LOOK NO FURTHER, Your Beauty Guru is here: OLA GERGERT

Ola Gergert from Gergert Beauty Academy

Ola Gergert from Gergert Beauty Academy

When I relocated from Czech Republic to Singapore almost two years ago, I was lost.

My trusted beauty network was left behind and I had to start the process of finding new spots to take care of the endless beauty needs most of us girls have.

Having kids, a busy work schedule and on travel for business quite often, when it comes to beauty my motto is: BE PRACTICAL.

On my mission of re-building my beauty network, I joined all possible groups on Facebook such as SEW (Singapore Expat Women), Singapore Expats and so on to ask for recommendations.

Next thing you know, Ola’s name came up so many times among the women and everyone described her as the most professional and passionate in her job.

So I decided to give it a try.

I personally have done microblading and eyelashes (which I continue doing with her) and I can only echo the comments from other women in these groups.

Ola made me feel comfortable since the first moment I met her, explained meticulously each step of the procedure and took time for all my questions. She cares about her customers and always tries to understand their need.

I got the opportunity to know her more over time, she shared and heard her journey from her move from Russia to Singapore till the opening of her first Beauty Boutique: Ola Gergert.

Being amazed by her story and personality myself I wanted to share it with you and here what she has to say, READY?

MTH: Hi Ola, thank you for taking the time to share your story with me, I would love for our readers to know your story. How did an amazing young lady from Russia landed in Singapore and made it her home?

OG: Honestly, we never know what will be happen tomorrow.

As we all know Russia is a very cold country, I was born in Siberia and at winter time it could get to - 30 degrees, now I can’t really imagine how freezing it is. So it made me to dream about life in a summer country.

As soon as I turned 18 i left my home city and moved to South of Russia - known as an “Winter Olympic Games 2014” , which I am deeply grateful to my mom that she let me to move so far away from her.

I remember that incredible feelings when I arrived and breath in with a warm salty sea air and I just fell in love.

I lived there for few years of my life, I was studying, working and travelling. I would never thought I would have made Singapore my home. I  moved here in 2015.

I was travelling and visiting my friend.

I was just amazed of everything here. This city seemed as city from the future and I couldn’t even imagine about opportunity made it home.

After a couple of weeks spent in Singapore, I met man of my life. He was a friend of a friend of mine. It became a long distance relationship, I was back to Russia and after couple of months he surprised and visited me there. It was a beautiful love story, I left my life behind there and started a new chapter of my life here in Singapore.

MTH: Wow, that is incredible. And how your passion for beauty started and then became a profession?

OG: I was modelling in teenage time of my life, I was really always into a beauty. When I moved from Siberia I was working in the restaurant business. One day, I heard from my friend about permanent brow makeup and decided to get it done for myself. It was 2013. It was a brand new technique back then and I was so incredibly happy on how it changed my makeup routine that I started to learn about it and decided to take a course, then it became more and more beauty treatments, happy clients and women’s transformation. Continuously learning and perfectioning my craft, learning from the best permanent makeup artists across the globe is an on going life mission!

MTH: You now have your own Beauty Boutique and that’s amazing but how did you get there? What have been your journey and challenges you have overcome?

OG: I am from Russia and beauty treatments there are just on the highest level there. Anywhere you go, you will get an amazing quality  treatment while here I wasn’t satisfied and almost crying when was leaving nail salon.

As I said before, I left everything behind, my work which I loved and moved to a new country. At first, it was not easy at all, because my English wasn’t good enough to make me feel confident in a workplace, with a new life, new culture, no friends, no family.

It was absolutely different experience.

When you are working with people, especially with women, you are getting an amazing magic energy and that’s what makes you so inspired and I really was missing it. After about 6 months of our marriage, I’ve got pregnant. During my pregnancy I was perfectioning my English and just enjoying my life. I decided to go back to beauty again once I able. We got our baby boy and when he turned 6 months, I started to work from home.

We all know it’s not easy to build your business when you are wife and mom, especially when your baby is small, so I was waiting for that time when my boy will grow a little bit bigger and I can get that responsibility on me to have time and energy to carry on my business. I am very grateful to my husband for making my dreams come to true, for believing in me and trusting me, for his unlimited support every day! He always knows how to lift me up! I would say permanent makeup for people here wasn’t that popular yet and like something scary and I was so happy to see more and more women’s transformation with my treatments. Now I have my studio in the heart of Singapore, and I still remember my first clients, seriously i remember  absolutely everyone from the start and they are all my regular clients for so many years now!

I was award as a best eyebrow and eyelash service by Expat Living Reader’s Choice in Singapore and I am really happy to bring a piece of the highest quality treatments to this amazing city, which I call “home”.

My treatments are trusted by thousands of clients all over the world which I am really grateful for!

I want to take a chance and thank everyone of you for your unconditional support and choosing me as a personal permanent makeup specialist!

MTH: Being your customer myself I can confirm your techniques and professionalism are unique and rare to find in Singapore but share with our readers the services you provide and explain the process of your most popular services.

OG: I treasure women’s beauty and specialise in a most natural permanent makeup eyebrows, lips and eyes techniques. I truly believe semi permanent makeup is a gift that every modern women deserves and owes herself.

As we are all have vibrant lifestyle it’s still very important to look gorgeous and confidence in any situation. I just want to help women to save their precious time, but feel and look at their “best” at all of hours of the day. Whether they are swimming, working out, playing with kids, showering or sleeping.

Semi permanent makeup isn’t permanent tattoo, it’s done in the upper layer of the skin, lasts up to 2 years and does fade over time when your artist perform work in a right technique. Investing in semi permanent makeup its an investment in your perfect makeup and beautiful morning for the next 1,5 years.

Each client is unique, the look, the personality, the desire. Applying a technique without considering individuality creates nothing. Creating a natural look with SPMU requires an in depth understanding of each client and using an extraordinary skill level to enhance the natural beauty already possessed by the client. It’s not just a treatment for me, it’s a art!

MTH: Last, what do you suggest to other women struggling out there trying to open their own business?

If it’s your dream just do it without any fear!

Believe in yourself and trust your heart!

There will be lots of mistakes but you shouldn’t take them as such. It’s an amazing experience. It will be journey of your business life with problems to solve, lessons to learn, but most of all experience to enjoy! It’s worth it when you love what you do and do what you love!

But at the same time remember to question yourself very honest, are you ready to take that responsibility to have time and energy for building and carrying your business and keeping a good balance in your life which is also not easy. Being an entrepreneur means that you’re never off the clock. Just listen to your heart, we live once!

MTH: I keep seeing you evolving as a person and business woman, share with Mommy The Hustler’s readers what’s next for Ola Gergert.
