Highlights of the Milan Fashion Week

The Milan Fashion Week may have drawn to a close a few days ago, but the hype surrounding it definitely won’t die down anytime soon.

The top models and fashion stars have officially moved on to Paris for the next big event in the series of ‘Big Four Fashion Weeks’ while spectators are eagerly waiting for the latest news from French designers. But in case you missed out the proceedings in Italy, there’s no need to worry. We have got you covered.

Here, we highlight the most noteworthy styles and memorable moments from the Milan Fashion Week 2019.

Tribute to the Legendary

Versace revisited one of its own masterpieces that it specially designed for the singer/ actress Jennifer Lopez almost two decades earlier. Known as the ‘green jungle dress,’ the long and flowing garment created a buzz when it first hit the screens – and this time was no different.

Did you know that the numerous search queries for the dress back in 2000 was what inspired Google to introduce the Google Image Search?

So, the audience were quite surprised when a voice announced, ‘Ok Google, show me the real jungle dress.’ And on cue, the famous singer herself walked down the runway wearing – well, you guessed it, (a slightly modified version of) the iconic green gown.

All Hail the Mighty Artist

Keeping in mind the main theme of the show, designers tried to display the relationship between fashion, art, and lifestyle from their own unique perspectives. However, what stood out amongst all others was Moschino’s Picasso-inspired collection.

The Italian brand honored the artist by designing eccentric garments that bear great resemblance to some of his most beloved works. Giant frames were used as props for models who literally dressed like a painting whereas Bella Hadid stole the show dressed as Picasso’s harlequin.

An Unplanned Protest

While Versace revisited one of the most prized fashion apparels, Gucci focused on the rather infamous ‘uniform’ of all times.

Creating different variations of straitjackets, Gucci showcased the dresses in a really unconventional manner. Instead of the usual catwalk, models stood still as a conveyor belt installed for the purpose carried them down the hall. The aim was to represent the power of different clothing items and how they dominate various aspects of our lives – be it short and funky skirts, or the monotonous straitjackets.

However, the event took an unexpected turn when one of the models, Tan Jones, used the opportunity to protest silently. She held up hands to reveal the message ‘Mental health is not fashion,’ written on her palms.
